Identify resources to accompany cultural changes: The intervention of psychology on the professional relationship between soldier and the military institution

Maria Carlino, Maria Grazia Strocchia

Abstract

Through a reflection on the changes that have affected military service, in particular the transition from obligation to choice, and with it to professional qualification, we believe that psychology can offer an important contribution to the analysis of psychosocial and cultural aspects of military professional identity. We suggest an intervention propose that takes into account, together with the evaluation processes of the individual that represent the most practiced part of the activity, the relationship between the expectations of the individual on the one hand and the organizational and cultural models of the military organization on the other, meaning as a culture the specific collusive modalities that characterize it.

Keywords

military psychosociology; military service’s obligation; working demotivation; professional identity.
