Abstract

The work proposes a critical vision of the psychoanalytic setting, understood as a working condition useful for assimilating psychoanalytic practice to medical practice. When it is “imposed” by psychoanalyst, the setting involves the acceptance of the drive theory and the reduction of psychoanalytic practice to a “cure for psychogenic neuroses”. Alternatively, it is proposed the analysis of the demand based on the semeiotic model of the mind, on the polysemy of the unconscious system. Finally, the practice of interpretative action is described, as a model of psychoanalytic intervention within complex contexts, where the psychoanalyst is confronted with the construction of a client who is not necessarily “given”.
